Kawaii Baby Diapers Review & Giveaway (Now Closed)

10 Jan

When I first started cloth diapering I was pretty sure that I wanted to use either AIO’s (all-in-ones) or pocket diapers, but when it came to what brand, I was at a loss. Since I have three (yes THREE) in diapers the start up cost was overwhelming and I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on a ton of diapers that I was going to end up hating. I spent a ridiculous amount of time researching and tried a handful of diapers that I thought I might like (BumGenius, FuzziBunz, Gdiapers, and a few no name diapers that I ordered off of Ebay). None of these really really “wowed” me, or at least none of them wowed me enough to win out over the staggering amount of money required to outfit three kids under three years old with enough cloth diapers to not have to do laundry every day.

One day while searching  for used diapers on Craigslist I came across an ad for someone selling a bunch of Kawaii Baby diapers. I was intrigued. I had never heard of them but they looked expensive. I did a bit of Googling to try and find out if buying them would be a bargain or not and I found the website www.theluvyourbaby.com never did end up buying those dipes off of Craigslist. Turns out they were so reasonably priced that I could afford to just buy them new. I was elated – these diapers were CUTE!

I started off with about six of the minky dipes in ½ snap closure and ½ hook and loop (Velcro).

Soon after I placed a huge order for a variety of other diapers off the site. By this time I had decided that I preferred the snap closures to the hook and loop kind because my children are older and think it’s hilarious to strip naked at any given moment. Velcro just facilitates their nudist tendencies. I also found that I do not care for the extra snaps at the hip that some of the diapers come with. I know that that is actually a very popular option for most people, but it seems to make the diapers cut in to my children’s hips and leaves marks. On the few diapers that I have with the hip snaps I usually just leave them unsnapped. That said, my favorite diapers are the minkies and the regular round tab dipes.

When I first started researching Kawaii Baby diapers I couldn’t find any reviews on them so placing an order made me a little bit nervous (remember those no-name diapers I said I ordered on Ebay? Yea. NOT the best quality!). I am thrilled to say that the Kawaii Baby diapers are soft, absorbent and very well made. My diapers get used A LOT between my three and I have hardly ever seen a leak. I have seen a few others mention that the inserts are kind of thin (each diaper comes with two, by the way) but I have never had a problem. I use one insert during the day and two at night, works great for us. I’ve also never seen a thicker insert with any of the other diapers I own so…*shrug*

My one and only “issue” with these diapers is that I do have a  few where the stitching is starting to come loose around the top of the diaper. I don’t mean that the diaper is coming apart in any way, it is just, basically a loose thread. It doesn’t in any way affect how well they work and it is something that could be easily fixed if I felt like bothering. I’m also pretty sure it has much more to do with the fact that I usually dry my diapers in the dryer (not recommended) rather than line drying.

Overall I highly recommend Kawaii Baby diapers if you want a high quality cloth diaper but don’t have a ton of cash to shell out (like me). I am planning on ordering a few of the bamboo and I’ve had my eye on the “Unicorn Kid” fun print for quite some time now.

Now for the good part: How would you like to try a Kawaii Baby diaper yourself for FREE!?

When I contacted April at Kawaii Baby to let her know that I was in love with her diapers and that I wanted to write a review, she generously offered one Heavy Wetter Hook & Loop diaper for a giveaway. The winner gets to choose which ever color they like (white, lime green, apple green or yellow) and it will be shipped directly from Kawaii Baby once I let her know who the lucky winner is. Horray!

(I had the wrong image up of the diaper to be given away, THESE are the correct diaper – they have a                                                             differnet velcro closure than the first picture I had up. SO sorry for any confusion!!)     “Overlap Velcro Closure fit smaller babies. 3 Rows of rise snap buttons to transform the diaper to fit newborn thru potty”

The End (for now) of Potty Learning

7 Sep

TWO mother-humping days later.

Everything went great for awhile – Lennon promptly peed in the potty thee second I brought them home and plunked them on the floor. A few hours later and Evelynn was getting in on the action.

They would both excitedly run over to the potties each time they were prompted (every 30 minutes or so) and would sit – concentrating intently – and even occasionally producing some urine.

A few hours after that – they both started  peeing on the floor with reckless abandon.

Both Alex and I tried patiently to remind them that “the pee pee goes in the potty, NOT on the floor.”

They didn’t much care.

In fact, they soon started to argue with us. NO they did not want to pee on the potty. NO they did not want to be big girls.

After several attempts at getting them to sit on the pot resulted in tears and tantrums, we gave the eff up. Yep. We’re quitters.

After a full day of diapering (today) with intermittent asking if they were interested in the potty (NO!) I brought out the big guns:

I presented the Yo Gabba Gabba underwear.

They were thrilled.

They named all of the characters…

(And then I almost passed the hell out because a few weeks ago Lennon was a catatonic zombie disaster!)

…and begged to put them on.

Over their diapers.

When I explained that they could not pee in these Lennon promptly handed hers over and turned her attention to the TV.

When I went on about how only big girls who went pee in the potty got to wear underwear like these and “ohhh, see how nice and soft and DRY they are?” they both reached out to pat them appreciably.

When I asked if they were ready to be big girls who peed on the potty and not in their big girl underwear Evy shook her head “no” and handed her’s over as well.

Obviously, they get the concept. Obviously, they are not ready.

Double phuck.

Nothing to do now but wait them out, I suppose?

Potty Learning

5 Sep

After talking about it all day for the past few days I finally admitted to myself that it was time for the twins to start potty learning.

Actually, its been time for awhile.

They have both been talking about poop, pee and potty for a long time. Showing interest in Alex and I using the bathroom and announcing when they needed to go/had already gone.

Honestly, it was ME that wasn’t ready.

Yesterday I decided that it was finally time and I set out to Babies R Us for some potties and “training” pants.

I came back with two of these:

They seem to be well-reviewed and the girls are able to get on/off of them easily.

I also ended up with Pull-Ups…though I’m not sure why. I wanted cloth “trainers” but the BBRU in the middle-of-nowhere (where I currently reside) does not carry such new-fangled items.

And Yo Gabba Gabba undies.

The girls have not gotten to wear them yet though – they are going to have to earn them. By peeing (and pooping) in the potties consistently.

For part of yesterday and all of today (except nap time when they wore Pull-Ups) they have been sans clothing from the waist down. We prompt them every so often (we really need to get a timer) to go and sit on the potty.

No one did anything yesterday, unless you count Evelynn peeing all over Alex’s work chair.

But today Lennon peed on the potty as soon as she got up this morning. Then she peed again (just a few drops). Then Evy peed on the floor. And then Evy peed a few drops on the toilet.

Over all, I am very impressed. I thought it would take days for them to pee in the potty at all. I think I’ve really been holding them back and they’ve been ready for quite some time now.

Goodbye babies. Hello little girls.
