False labor!
Basically that means I’m having contractions (sometimes really nasty mean ones) but because they don’t come rhythmically and they don’t progress (closer together, longer, stronger, etc) that they really are not causing cervical changes or doing anything to get Nolan out.
For most of last evening I was in utter misery. My contractions were getting so bad that I could no longer talk though them and I was seeing “white” each time one hit (KWIM?). However, they were still not rhythmic (8 min, 5 min, 4 min, 12 min, etc for a few hours, then nothing for an hour or two).
Around ten I decided to try and get some sleep. I figured if it they continued while I was holding still (sleeping) and/or woke me up that it was time to go in. And they did. So I did (at about 2am).
Same thing when we got there…STRONG contractions but not rythmic. They checked me and I was exactly the same as I was a few days ago! 1 cm dilated, 40% effaced (which is not much) and the baby at -2.
They kept me for a few hours and gave me some blood pressure medication which they use to stop contractions along with a shot for the pain (did nothing for the pain, but the contractions did finally stop after a few hours). I wish I could remember the name of the medication, it was something with a P…?
Anyhow, once I had no contractions for 45 minutes they sent me home. Again.
They also checked me again before I left and nothing had changed. They told me that this was false labor and that it could go on like this for weeks before I ACTUALLY go into labor and deliver.
So, this sucks.
And I am not half the gangster that I thought I was because this effing HURTS! It’s not unbearable pain, but the thought of it going on and on for weeks makes me want to cry.

I’m so sorry that sounds awful. When I had PTL they gave me procardia for the contractions (is that the medication they gave you?)
Wow! That does suck!!! I was just sure I was gonna check in here and you were going to either be in labor or have had the baby. I hope the contractions stop and baby Nolan hangs in there for another few weeks.
Ugh!! Sooo sorry you are having to deal with all of this. I hope he can bake a little while longer too.

Hi! I have been reading for a while, but have never commented before. I think the med that was given to you may have been Procardia. I was given this for preterm labor and blood pressure issues when I was pregnant with my second son. Hope you feel better soon and that Nolan “bakes” for a few more weeks 🙂
When I finally went into labor with my first, I was 2 weeks late and the contractions were SECONDS apart. They’d last 5-10 seconds, and I’d get a 45 second break, then another contraction for 5-10 seconds…….this time I’d get a 80 second break. Next time, I’d get a 20 second break. It went on like this for TWENTY FOUR GOD FOR SAKEN HOURS! No change in my uterus in the first 5 or 6 hours, so THEY broke my water. NO change again for another 4 hours or so. They started the pitocen (sp?) ….It was a long hard labor but, in the end. I had the most precious little angel in my arms.

Ugh man, sounds like this really sucks, but try to hang in there. You don’t have much longer!
I think the medication they probably gave was Procardia? I was on it for a few weeks when I was having unstoppable contractions with my twins. I honestly don’t think it made much of a difference so I stopped taking it eventually….and carried to 38 weeks. Go figure 😛

I’d say the med they gave you was procardia too. That is frequently given to women with premature labor. I hope things calm down soon.
