All I want for Christmas is a BFP…and maybe that cute little townhouse…

11 Dec

**Warning. If you do not live in California or New York the cost of living mentioned in this blog may cause shock; in extreme cases even jaw droppage. You have been warned.**

I am really going to miss the place we live now. They are apartments but are set up in four unit buildings which are spaced out over several miles of hilly green property filled with trees. There is even a creek running trough it. We have lived here for three years (since we got married) but the property was recently sold from private ownership to a huge company and our rent has sky rocketed from $850 a month to $1135!! They have got to be kidding! This place is cute but it is only a one bedroom and it has no bathtub (shower only), no fireplace, no washer and dryer…NOTHING.

So, we decided to get the heck out of there…and about 10 minutes ago I got the call that we were approved for the CUTEST little townhouse! Yippie! I am *so* excited! This place still doesn’t have a washer and dryer in unit (or a fireplace) but it is only $1175 for a two bedroom, 1.5 bath two story (very small) HOUSE! I finally have a place to PUT the baby (once I actually manage to conceive one)! I am so very excited.

This place is super niffty. It was built circa 1940 (complete with glitter ceilings) and it reminds me of what an apartment building would be like in New York city. You walk into the building through huge glass doors and into a lobby with a couch, the mailboxes and the elevator. All of the apartments are indoors off of long hallways. How cool is that (you don’t see many apartments like that in Cali).

Our move in date is Jan 15th. Now I need to buy more furniture to fill all my new space. =)

That’s GREAT!! I live in the outskirts of Philadelphia, PA so I don’t think the prices are astronomical, but I do know CA has a higher cost of living. Actually, the company my husband works for is in Seattle and we contemplated living there…wowee… I kept asking him if the salary is commiserate w/the locale? So are you buying or renting?

Renting. =( We are hoping to buy within the next few years…but we are still saving the downpayment up…not quite where we want to be with it yet.

That is SUPER crazy…I live in MN, have a 5 bedroom/4 bath–4500 sq. ft. house on one of the cleanest lakes in the state…and our house payment isn’t much more than your RENT. *picking jaw up off the floor*
Absolutely CRAZY…but so glad you’ve found something!!

Ok so I’m in California (central valley) and my rent isn’t anywhere near that. Or at least not really. I do know that that area is really expensive and am pretty sure I could never afford to live there.

Wow…thanks for the warning! 🙂 I live in Wisconsin and my house payment is half of your rent. Wow!! Glad you found something! Maybe it’s a sign! I feel a baby coming…..
