My happy blog worked! After being sooo down about this for so long we finally have a ray of hope, I can hardly believe it!!

Hubby and I had finally decided to just go with the road of least resistance. We decided that we were putting way too much thought and stress into something that we really couldn’t control that that we would be thrilled with any child we managed to have, even if the circumstances were not our first choice. SO, we filled out the paperwork for the least expensive sperm bank (its on my links list if you are interested) and it is sitting in a neat little stack, all ready to go.

On a whim Hubby decided to tell his brother (lets call him BB because he’s my Hubby’s Baby Brother…don’t worry, he’s 28) that we were going to use an anonymous donor. Hubby was afraid that he would be offended if we just up and used a donor without warning him first, even though he appeared thoroughly uninterested in helping. And guess what? He said he think s he wants to do it! He said that he really wants to help out in any way he can, he asked for more info (we gave him our copy of “Helping the Stork” and an info packet from the clinic we chose). He said that he would like to take the next few days to do some soul searching to make sure that he really is as “ok” with this as he thinks he is. So, there is definitely still a chance that he could decide that this isn’t for him, plus we will still have to make sure that he is fertile…But we are SO excited that he is even considering doing this for us. That he would even give it serious thought restores (some) of my faith in humanity. =)

While we would be disappointed if he decides that he cannot help after all, we would completely understand. To do this would be a big deal, and we would never want him to do something that was going to make him miserable in the long run. Besides, I don’t know if he realizes what all is involved yet. He is a very intelligent man, so I’m sure he has some clue…but I don’t know how the idea of having to take two weeks out of his life to drive to the clinic every three days (it is an hour from where we live) and submit to TWO STD tests (ouch). Not to mention he is going to have to give up sex and alcohol for those two weeks as well…lol

Either way though things are finally, FINALLY coming together! It turns out that using a known donor through a clinic is REALLY expensive but we applied for a line of credit and got it! So either way we are ready to go (either with BB or the anon donor) and we are finally making progress! I can hardly believe it, after almost giving up all hope so many times over the past THREE years, we might actually be pregnant soon! I can’t even fathom what it would be like to see a POSITIVE pregnancy test – wow.

    Great news!
Hope BB doesn’t change his mind.

    Good luck!

Hey, I had a thought for you. Have you considered self insemination? Another blogger (Kami) mentioned it to me so I briefly looked it up online. Apparently a midwife can train you and assist. The article also said it is less expensive. Since it is your husbands brother would that be a good option?

There is a book that talks about doing DI w/a cervical cap. I don’t know the details.
